About Shawshee (Rachel)

When I was a little girl, my parents say I used to rant about the injustices of the world. I'm not sure what injustices 3 year old me saw, but I wouldn't tolerate them. As a girl I always noticed the children no one else wanted to play with, the ones off to the side, shunned by the "popular crowd". I could see the hurt look in their eyes when they weren't included and I hurt for them. I was privilege to befriend many of these children and I would always think If others only knew how great they are! The treasure of a person was being ignored because they didn't have the "right" outward appeal.

In my late teens my parents started the process to adopt a little girl from China. My heart was broken as my eyes were opened to all the hurting orphans around the world. While we waited for our referral, my parents discovered China's "Waiting Child" list. This list was made up of all the children who had "special needs". The least of the least. I remember one of the first little boys I saw on this list. He had blueish/purple birthmarks all over his face and arms and I wished I could take him myself! Unable to, I prayed for him to find a family instead. A short time later my mom told me that someone had taken him!!! He had found his forever home and I was thrilled!

The more children I saw and the more siblings that came home only stirred the growing passion in my heart to speak out for these precious treasures who cannot speak for themselves. It started in poems, moved to 300 page novels, and brought forth Pages for the Dark Horses.
"Today I know that memories are the key not to the past, but to the future. I know that the experiences of our lives, when we let God use them, become the mysterious and perfect preparation for the work He will give us to do." - Corrie ten Boom
It never ceases to amaze me how excited I feel inside when someone says they are going to adopt a child, or how beautiful even the emptiest face on the "Waiting List" can be when I know they are a child of the King!  My heart has always been for the least of the least and to be able to bring them to light.
