Could You Be the One?

(Written by A.P.)

Do we see them? Right outside our doors...? I bet we see them every day without having a second thought. We miss their eyes, their laugh, their longing... They are hidden within society and often overlooked.
Thousands upon thousands long for what we have... what we could give, but often take for granted.
However, if we don't see them how can we give them what they need? Who? Foster children. The need? A family, a home.
It's not about the numbers, it's about the individuals. Each of these children is unique and has a purpose. It's much easier to deal with this issue by just looking at the numbers. Forty-five percent were adopted in one year. Pretty good, right? But what about the 65% that remain? Can you look at their faces, hear their heart, and still believe that those remaining children are just a number?
Jesus said, "Let the little children come unto me and do not hold them back." He also said that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them. Can you imagine that??? The Kingdom literally belongs to them! But how will they know? How will they find Him if we don't reach out? Are we willing to lay down our lives for these kids just as Jesus lay down His life for us?
I originally wrote this a couple years ago. I had been looking over lists of children in the United States who were waiting for homes. I watched videos of them sharing their dreams and wishes for their lives. Many of them had been passed over by families for almost a decade. Every one in a while I got back to those lists and see some of the same children. Some of the children on the lists are 18 and still longing for a family to adopt them. A family: to come home to; to love them; to share their lives with; and to get support from. Something that they never had as a kid. That blows me away...
Could you be the one to foster them? Could you be the one to adopt them? Are you the one who will support those who do? Will you be the one to pray for these children and those that are called to adopt them?

But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:14
