Andy Update
With Andy having such limited information about him I wanted to try and do something to help his cause.
So I contacted a specialist concerning his diagnosis of Vergae Cyste. I had never heard of this condition before nor could I find any good information about it. This is what she explained to me, when I asked if this condition would effect his physical and intellectual development.
"Without knowing anything else, I would say….it depends? The cyst itself is nothing worrisome (it’s not a tumor), but like everything else in this world, location is everything. So if the cyst is blocking the circulation of spinal fluid, it could cause problems.
I would want to know if the child has any associated diagnoses of hydrocephalus, ventriculomegaly or macrocephaly. What was the reason that the head imaging (MR or CT) was done?
Usually I would put that finding into a bigger picture, and if the head size, ventricle size looked normal, I wouldn’t worry about it. If the child had hydrocephalus that was treated with a shunt, the cyst is no longer a problem, but the shunt could be."
I know some orphanages do brain scans as just a part of their regular medical exam. In Andy's case, this cyste could be a legitimate problem for him or it might be nothing. As an advocate who has seen a lot of kids, I wonder why they didn't list "Hydrocephalus, or macrocephaly," if he had those, so perhaps he doesn't.
No one will really know unless they pursue seeing his file, but I found this information encouraging.
